Ex-‘GMA’ Co-Host Janai Norman: “Breaks My Heart I Don’t Get To Say Goodbye”
Janai Norman, who served as a co-anchor on ABC’s Good Morning America Weekend since 2022, was let go over the weekend – or, rather, she learned that her expired contract would not be renewed – has posted a goodbye message to viewers on social media.
“I’d hoped that we’d have more time,” she began on the video message (watch it below), “and it’s been hard on me that our time was cut short. I have loved my job. It has been a joy to connect with my co-workers and with viewers to help keep you informed and entertained and to create this community.

“So it really breaks my heart that I don’t get to say goodbye,” she continued. “I’m so sorry that I don’t get to say goodbye. It would have been fun.
“But I have these three young kids, and I have worked weekends their whole lives, and so now they get more of me, and that is worth everything. So stay tuned. I’m sorry. I feel you and thank you to every single one of you who has reached out with such kind and validating words, I have needed it, and I appreciate it.”
The caption accompanying the video reads, “More in time.”
News of Norman’s abrupt departure was revealed in Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter. No word yet on whether she’ll be replaced.
Norman joined ABC News as an intern in 2011 and helped launch the second hour of Saturday’s GMA in 2019. Her co-anchors were Whit Johnson and Gio Benitez.
