Fans confused by Caitlin Clark’s odd move after USA basketball win
No matter how hard she tries, Caitlin Clark can’t escape the spotlight.
The WNBA star caught fans off guard with what appeared to be a bold strategy of sidestepping the media, following Team USA’s 93-59 win over Italy on Saturday in the FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico.
Clark, 24, stuck out like a sore thumb as the United States women’s national team headed back to the locker room, breaking from the single-file line and walking along the wall with her nose plastered on a backdrop featuring the event’s sponsors — seemingly an attempt to avoid any photos.
A video posted by Moreau Sports Media captured the bizarre scene, prompting several social media users to express their confusion.
“CC what are you doing,” one user wrote with a crying emoji.
“LOL Caitlin hiding like she has a photo exclusive with People Magazine or something,” added another.
And finally: “CC don’t f-ck with the press lol.”
The Indiana Fever star tallied 12 points and five assists in 22 minutes off the bench in Saturday’s win over Italy, just her third game since suffering a season-ending groin injury in July 2025.
She returned to the hardwood as a first-time member of the women’s national team and dropped 17 points and 12 assists in her highly anticipated U.S. debut on March 11, which yielded a 110–46 thumping of Senegal.
The USA handed Italy its first loss of the tournament and remained perfect at 3–0. Kahleah Copper led the way with 15 points, while Chelsea Gray added 11 points and eight assists.
The Americans will take on New Zealand Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET.
