Apparently there’s been some confusion surrounding recent quotes from Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi, and he’s now attempting to clear things up.
Previously, Hamaguchi had claimed that the final, third game in the saga will be “a bit more concise” than Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth — a title that’s sometimes criticised for having too much padding between key story beats.
But the director is very keen to let fans know that “concise” does not equate to cutting content.
In an interview with VGC, he explains: “I think [my previous comments] may have been misconstrued by people; they may have said, ‘OK, that means they’re going to cut down on the volume and they’re going to remove story content, it’s going to be a shorter game, they’re going to cut it down’, and that’s not what I’m saying at all.”
He continues: “It’s about making sure the pacing feels right, it’s not about cutting out content, it’s making sure that it feels right, the speed that the story progresses at feels right, and it is fairly quick and feels like you can get through it at a reasonable pace. But it has to feel right, so that’s what I mainly intended to say there.”
As we’ve mentioned before, Part 3 — which doesn’t have an official name yet — has a lot of story to get through. Final Fantasy 7’s plot really starts to ramp up beyond the events that were covered in Rebirth, and so we do think there’s pressure on the dev team to get the pacing right.
But when are we actually going to see Part 3? When’s the big reveal? Hamaguchi doesn’t give a straight answer, as you’d expect, but he does tease that news will be coming in the “not too distant” future.
