Fire in Iran’s capital Tehran extinguished
A large fire broke out in a carpentry workshop inside a military base in eastern Tehran on Friday, with smoke visible across the Iranian capital. Firefighters managed to put out the blaze, and there were no injuries, Iranian news agencies reported.
The semi-official news agency Mehr said the workshop was located in a military complex linked to Iran’s military joint staff, without giving further details.
State-affiliated Nour News said the fire had led to “widespread publication of photos from eastern Tehran on social media under the title of ‘explosion in Tehran.'”
The fire came a week after explosions were reported in the Iranian port cities of Bandar Abbas and Ahvaz on January 31. Additional blasts were reported on the same day in Karaj and the Parand neighborhood of Tehran.
Iranian authorities reported the cause of the Bandar Abbas and Ahvaz explosions as a gas leak, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) refuting social media rumors that naval officials had been killed.
According to Iran International, a total of five people were killed in the blasts.
Recent fires and explosions in Iran have caused increased concern due to the ongoing United States-Iran tensions, with US naval ships and other military assets recently positioned in the region.
