KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Not one, not two, but three blasts of energy from the sun are headed toward Earth, and they’ll combine to create a geomagnetic storm from Thursday into Friday.
Science aside, this sets up as a great opportunity to see the northern lights.
The K-index value is a great way to measure the strength of a solar storm.
Usually, lower Michigan needs a value of 7 to actually witness auroras.
The Space Weather Prediction Center is predicting a K-index value of 6 approaching sunset Thursday night.
About a month ago, Rita Humphries spotted the Big Dipper backlit by the Northern Lights. Just amazing!
