The New York Gaming Facility Location Board awarded licenses to:
– New York Mets owner/hedge fund founder Steve Cohen, who won approval to open a casino near the baseball team’s stadium. Cohen’s group includes Hard Rock.
– Genting Group, a Malaysian company that owns Resorts World New York City at a racetrack in Queens, proposed spending $5.5 billion to expand a location focused on slots into a full-fledged casino.
– Bally’s casino bid is to open a casino at the location of President Trump’s former golf course at Ferry Point near the Whitestone Bridge — a move that would net the Trump Organization $115 million.
Bally’s Trump Connection
The Trump Organization once had a license to operate the Bronx golf course that it assigned to Bally’s for a $60 million fee in 2023.
As part of their agreement, Bally’s agreed to pay the Trump Organization an additional $115 million in the event that it won a gaming license there.
Now that Bally’s has won the award, it owes the Trumps $115 million.
GoLocal reached out to Bally’s spokesperson for the casino project — Lauren Westerfield — about the details of the deal between Bally’s and the Trumps.
She did not respond to a series of questions from GoLocal about the deal at the time of publication.
