Google shared with us that it is “launching new Fitbit hardware next year.” Similarly, the personalized health coach and redesigned Fitbit app that enters preview starting tomorrow will see a full launch in 2026. The Fitbit team teases an “exciting year ahead.”

The last Fitbit tracker (Charge 6) was released in September of 2023, while the affordable Inspire 3 dates back to 2022 with the Versa 4 and Sense 2 smartwatches. Technically, the latest Fitbit launch is the Wear OS-powered Ace LTE ($180) for kids.

With the Pixel Watch at a mature stage, Google will presumably not release any more Fitbit OS-powered smartwatches. However, continued development on trackers seems like a strong possibility. The Inspire 3 is $100, though often discounted, while the Charge 6 is $160 with a strong lineage.

With the Fitbit Coach not limited to the Pixel Watch, it makes sense to continue offering something cheaper than the $350 Pixel Watch. Meanwhile, the main advantages remain battery life that lasts around a week, and a much smaller form factor. The other one is iOS compatibility.

Google sells last year’s Pixel Watch 3 from $250, with discounts from other retailers bringing it into the $200+ range historically occupied by Fitbit smartwatches. That could be enough to provide a range of options, but there are always people who want a more fitness-focused — or “Ultra” — smartwatch running Wear OS. Plastic could make for a lighter and more durable device, with a square or rectangular shape aiding battery life.
