Here’s everything announced in today’s 30th anniversary Pokémon Presents showcase
Happy birthday, Pokémon – now officially at the age when the joints start to creak and you can really feel those hangovers kicking in. Today marks 30 years since the perennially popular creature-catching series made its Japanese Game Boy debut in the form of Pocket Monsters Red and Green, and The Pokémon Company is celebrating the occasion with a special anniversary Pokémon Presents showcase. Wondering what’s been announced? You’ll find everything – from the Gen 10 to the free-to-play suff – below.
A Game Boy-like device for Pokémon music!
Want a cute (if probably quite impractical) way to listen to music from Pokémon Red and Blue? Well, then you might be intrigued by the Game Boy Jukebox – a small device, designed to resemble a mini Game Boy, that you slot Pokémon game cartridges into. Except they don’t play games, only music. These music players are available via the Pokémon Center store in the UK, Canada, and US from today, and there are 45 songs – and therefore 45 cartridges – to collect. No pricing details were mentioned.
A brief update on this year’s Pokémon World Championships
The Pokémon World Championships 2026 are being held in San Francisco alongside the inaugural Pokémon XP fan event, which runs from 28-30 August, and are set to welcome over 3000 competitors. Attendees will be battling each other in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon Go, and Pokémon Unite. And for the firt time this year, the competution includes the soon-to-be-released Pokémon Champions (see below!).
Pokémon TCG is also having a birthday celebration
It’s not just Pokémon that turns 30 this year; The Pokémon Trading Card Game is also celebrating the big three-oh. And to mark that milestone, The Pokémon Company is promising – although not yet detailing – a “dazzling line” of TGC “products” that’s getting a global launch in 2026.
GameCube’s Gale of the Darkness is coming to Switch 2
There’s a bit of relevant news for fans of GameCube’s Pokémon XD: Gale of the Darkness. It’s being made available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers as part of the Nintendo Classics range. It’s coming this March, which isn’t far away – but do note is exclusive to Switch 2.
Pokémon Go’s having an anniversary event too
And yet another birthday! This year marks the 10th anniversary of Pokémon Go, but what we have here specifically is a 30th Anniversary Event (it’s called All Out) to celebrate the franchise as a whole. The gist is that a “huge range” of Pokémon will return to Go between 7th-9th March, so if you want to catch-’em-all, you know what to do. Additionally, the Pokémon Go Tour: Kalos Global runs from 28th February to 1st March, should you want something else to do.
Red is coming to Pokémon Masters EX with his old look
The nostalgia continues! Pokémon Blue and Red protagonist, Red, will soon be making an appearance in Pokémon Masters EX with his classic look. More specifically, he’s arriving as part of a new Pokémon Masters EX Sync Pair – featuring Pikachu and Red (1996) – that’s available now. Additionally, another Sync Pair – this time Florian and Ogerpon (Anniversary 2026) – arrive tomorrow, 28th February, while Juliana and Terapagos (Anniversary 2026) turn up on 2nd March. Oh, and if you log in now, you’ll get 3000 gems.
Now an anniversary snack with Pokémon Café Remix
And we’re still not done with the free-to-play stuff. Pokémon Café Remix is also getting in on the anniversary action, this time with a round-up of all starter Pokémon from each reigon – kicking off with the Kanto trio on 28th February. Players can also expect new Pokémon, chef outfits, and 30th anniversary café customisation decorations to appear.
Mew Missions are on the way to Pokémon Sleep
There’s not much say about this one: only that Mew is coming to Pokémon Sleep with a bunch of new missions starting tonight. Time to catch some Zs!
New arrivals hit Pokémon Unite
To celebrate Pokémon Day, three legendary birds are on their way to Pokémon Unite. Who? That’ll be Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno – and you’ll need to participate in the relevant event to unlock their Unite licences. Elsewhere, players can say hello to Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligar soon.
Home support confirmed for FireRed and LeafGreen
Those slightly controversial standalone Swtichs release of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are now here, with The Pokémon Company giving them another airing during its anniversary showcase. The big news, though, is that Home support is now confirmed, with the ability to transfer your FireRed and LeafGreen critters to the subscription storage service coming “in the future”.
Pokémon TCG Pocket’s 30 Years of Pokémon
Got pockets? Prepare for some news of your own! Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket‘s new themed Booster Pack, Paldean Wonders, is “premiering” now. And if that’s not anniversary enough, there’s also a 30 Years of Pokémon event going on. By logging in between 27th February and 27th June, players can get special rewards – includung the chance to open up to 30 Booster Packs – and there are special accessories to be won through missions too.
Pokémon Champions narrows down its release window
The previously announced Pokémon Champions, which lets players battle each other in an arena using new or previous Pokémon Partners (you’ll need to use Pokémon Home in order to access the latter), finally has narrowed down its 2026 release window a little further: it’s coming to Switch sometime this April, with Android and iOS versions to follow.
Mega Garchomp Z comes to Z-A: Mega Dimension
If you’re still tootling away in Pokémon Z-A, you might be interested to hear that its Mega Dimension DLC is getting a bit of an update. Starting today, 27th February, you can claim a Mystery Gift that’ll let you detect a special hyperspace distortion – in-game, obviously. That, in turn, will lead you to Mega Garchomp Z. And if you manage to defeat it, you’ll get a Garchompite Z stone that your own Garchomp can hold to Mega Evolve into Mega Garchomp Z.
Another look at Pokémon Pokopia
It’s not too far away at this point, but it seems like Pokémon Pokopia has been hanging onto a few last surprises – including DJ Rotom’s role as a handy music player. And if you’re peckish you can chat with Chef Dente – a Greedent – to learn new food recipes. Pokopia’s latest trailer also featured a peek at four-player mode, for those wanting to visit their pals’ islands. So not much that’s super new or super exciting, but it continues to looks cool!
Pokémon Wind and Waves gets the reveal treatment
And here it is, Gen 10! Pokémon Winds and Waves got their big debut during the Pokémon showcase, including a look at the games’ seemingly Southeast Asia-inspired world – all blue skies, tropical jungles, and rolling waves – alongside its three new starters: Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua. The major news, though, is we won’t be getting the games this year – Pokémon Wind and Waves are confirmed for release in 2027. We’ve taken a closer look at Pokémon Winds and Waves, along with the returning Pokémon.
