Hollow Knight Switch 2 version announced, owners on Switch can upgrade for free later today
Update (2:10PM): An upgraded port of Hollow Knight has been revealed at the Nintendo Partner Direct. It’s coming out later today, and owners of the original Nintendo Switch version of the game can get a free upgrade on the Switch 2.
Original article (11:40AM): Hollow Knight has received a PEGI rating for the Switch 2, hinting towards a port to the latest Nintendo console.
As can be seen on the PEGI website, the beloved metroidvania can be seen rated across all its console versions. However, if you peer down at the base version of Hollow Knight (not the Voidheart Edition) you can see a Switch 2 version rated today, the 5th February 2026.
This comes at a peculiar time, as we have a Nintendo Partner Direct to look forward to later today at 2PM GMT / 3PM CEST / 6AM PST / 9AM EST. Perhaps this is a early indicator of a reveal to come.
Hollow Knight hasn’t become a household name without cause. The game has an extremely compelling guiding hand that urges players to explore a collection of endearing, often gorgeous, sometimes horrifying, locations that are both lovingly-crafted and packed with weaving narratives.
If you’ve not actually played the original Hollow Knight yet, perhaps you jumped first into Silksong or just haven’t found the time, it’s an absolute must-play. You can read Eurogamer’s review of Hollow Knight here, in which Vikki Blake describes the game as: “A stern yet scintillating 2D adventure that makes a point of not holding your hand.”
