How Much Gas Prices Have Increased in Every State Since Iran Conflict Began
However you’re feeling about U.S. military action in Iran, you’re likely feeling some pain at the gas pump.
The average cost for a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. jumped 16% in the seven-day period ending on March 9, reaching $3.48. That’s according to a new GOBankingRates analysis of data from AAA. With oil now topping $100 a barrel and ongoing shipping lane disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, experts predict further increases.

Prices are up in all 50 states since the conflict began on Feb. 28, but some states have been hit harder than others. Read on for a list of key findings and a state-by-state breakdown.

Multiple Midwest states have been hit the hardest, with Indiana seeing a 68-cent increase (up 24%) and Ohio up 66 cents (23.6%). Florida saw the third-highest percentage increase (61 cents, 21.2%), followed by Iowa (54 cents, 20.6%), Oklahoma (50 cents, 20.8%) and Michigan (59 cents, 19.8%).

The smallest percentage increases were seen in the West. Prices in Hawaii were up 14 cents (3%). Washington had the second-lowest bump (26 cents, 6%) followed by Oregon (28 cents, 7%) and Alaska (30 cents, 8%).

Despite seeing a relatively modest 12% bump, California still has the highest price per gallon in the nation at $5.20. Washington is a distant second ($4.63), followed by Hawaii ($4.52).

The nation’s least expensive gallon of gas can be found in Kansas ($2.92). Oklahoma comes in second at $2.97, followed by Missouri and Arkansas (both $2.99).
