How to Get Money Fast (Nugget Bridge Glitch) – Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green Guide
Whether it’s for healing your Pokemon, curing a status effect, or buying Poke Balls, you need a lot of money in your Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen adventure. While you can earn it by winning battles, there’s a glitch that allows you to generate as much money as you want – and it’s pretty early on, too. This guide teaches you how to make money fast using the Nugget Bridge glitch in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen.
This glitch reportedly only works in the English (NA) version of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen! This includes the Switch version released in February 2026. We’ve only tested it in the English version, so your mileage may vary if your copy is another language/region.
How to Make Money Fast Using the Nugget Bridge Glitch
To perform the Nugget Bridge glitch in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, follow the steps below:
- After defeating Gym Leader Brock in Pewter City, progress through Mt. Moon and Route 4 to reach Cerulean City.
- Once inside Cerulean City, head north. You’ll see a bridge – this is Nugget Bridge.
- Defeat your rival Trainer in battle, then start walking across the bridge.
- Defeat the five Trainers standing on Nugget Bridge.
- Immediately after defeating the fifth Trainer but before leaving the bridge, save your progress.
- Walk back across the bridge to the Cerulean City Pokemon Center.
- Use the PC to store every Pokemon except one low level Pokemon (we used a Level 3 Weedle).
- Return to Nugget Bridge and walk across it. A man will stop you on the other side, giving you a Nugget as a reward for defeating the five Trainers on the bridge.
- The man will initiate a battle with you – let him knock out your single, low-level Pokemon. You’ll wipe out and return to the Cerulean City Pokemon Center. Even though you were defeated, you will still have the Nugget he gave you.
- Return to the man and battle him again. Lose. Rinse and repeat. You’ll get a Nugget each time.
- Each Nugget is worth 5,000 Pokedollars when sold at the Poke Mart. Keep fighting the man and selling the Nuggets until you’ve got as much money as you want.
After you’ve defeated Gym Leader Brock in Pewter City, head east to Route 3 (and finally unlock the Running Shoes!). Progress forward, going through Mt. Moon and Route 4, and you’ll eventually reach Cerulean City. Head out of Cerulean City’s north exit toward Route 24, where you’ll see a wooden bridge. Save, then as you go to step on it, your rival Trainer will appear; battle him and win.
With your rival Trainer out of the way, walk forward onto the bridge. You’ll need to defeat five Trainers here, which are:

Immediately after defeating the fifth Trainer, Camper Ethan, on Nugget Bridge, save your game. Then return to Cerulean City and go to the Pokemon Center. Deposit all of your Pokemon into the PC except one – make sure it’s low level. We used a Level 3 Weedle, for example.
With the single, low-level Pokemon in your party, return to Nugget Bridge and continue forward. The man on the other side will stop you and congratulate you on defeating the previous five Trainers, handing you a Nugget as a reward. He will then reveal he’s a member of Team Rocket, try to convince you to join, and battle you when you refuse to.
Deliberately lose the battle against the Team Rocket Grunt by allowing him to knock out your single Pokemon. You’ll wipe and return to the Cerulean City Pokemon Center. You’ll lose a few Pokedollars but that’s okay – you’ll make it back and then some!
Return to the Team Rocket Grunt and he’ll give you another Nugget, despite already having given you one before you fought him. Lose the battle again and rinse and repeat. Each time you lose to him, you’ll keep the Nugget he gives you.
Each Nugget is worth 5,000 Pokedollars when sold at the Poke Mart. Battle the Team Rocket Grunt with your single, low-level Pokemon as much as you want and sell the Nuggets until you’ve got your desired amount of money.
Note that if you defeat the Team Rocket Grunt, you can no longer receive a Nugget from him. So only beat him once you’re satisfied with the amount of money you have.
The Game Corner in Celadon City sells rare Pokemon in exchange for Coins. You can use your Pokedollars to buy Coins: 1,000 Pokedollars for 50 Coins and 10,000 Pokedollars for 500 Coins. This is a great way of getting Pokemon like Dratini and Porygon easily, especially with the tons of Pokedollars you can make using the Nugget Bridge glitch.
