Kendra Duggar Appears to Be Preparing to Run Husband Joseph’s Company After Handling Business Dealings While He Was In Jail

Kendra Duggar is preparing for the possibility of a new reality should her husband Joseph Duggar have to serve time in prison after being charged with two felony counts of lewd and lascivious behavior.

It is a new reality that the couple started preparing for just days after his arrest, when Joseph began explaining to Kendra how to run his company and take over his business dealings.

Joseph owns a number of rental properties in Arkansas, and in jail phone calls obtained by PEOPLE he explains to Kendra how he lists the properties, who cleans the properties and even advises her on choices that need to be made on one property that is being renovated.

Those conversations began just before Joseph was extradited to Florida, and after he told Kendra on a March 25 phone call that he had signed a legal document granting her power of attorney. That allows Kendra to make both legal and financial decisions on her husband’s behalf.

Kendra got a trial run of her new role during the two weeks Joseph spent in custody before being released on a $600,000 bond.

Once Joseph found himself in an Arkansas detention facility, Kendra found herself in charge of the multiple properties her husband rents out on Airbnb.

The first order of business Joseph discussed with Kendra after granting her power of attorney was getting their personal contact details removed from the sites listing their properties.

“Oh yeah, that’s already been done as much as we can,” Kendra told her husband.

Joseph then spent the next 15 minutes on a variety of topics, projects and payments related to the business.

He instructed Kendra on checks that needed to be written, payments they were owed, the countertop and flooring selections he was considering for a home that was being renovated and a rundown of the websites on which they were advertising their properties and the best practices for each.

Most of the time, Kendra informed Joseph that she already had a handle on whatever task needed to be completed or the systems she needed to utilize to run the day-to-day operations of the business.

She is not the only new hire at the company either: three of Joseph’s brothers — Jedidiah, Jeremiah and John-David — have also stepped in to lend a helping hand.

On a March 26 phone call, Kendra and Joseph discussed how some of the more labor-intensive tasks that needed to be done on their properties were on hold because the brothers were away on overlapping vacations.

They also briefly discussed the future of their company on that March 25 call.

Joseph said his primary concern is whether or not the income from their rental properties is enough money to keep Kendra and the children afloat.

“You know, it’ll still be tight, I think, but I think you can make it on that,” Joseph told Kendra.

Kendra then told Joseph that “everyone thinks it is more advantageous that I have the money right now,” noting that the rentals provide a “consistent stream” of income.

The two then discuss selling off some of their properties should the need arise, or possibly even building additional properties.

He also made a point of telling his wife on a March 24 phone call that he had complete confidence in her.

“You make really good decisions so I trust you,” Joseph told Kendra.

Joseph is now back home with Kendra in Arkansas after posting bond following a March 31 court hearing in Florida. He is due back in May for his arraignment.

He is expected to be formally charged with lewd and lascivious behavior committed by an individual over the age of 18 and lewd and lascivious behavior molestation of a minor under the age of 12.

If convicted on the latter of those two charges, Joseph could be sentenced to life in prison.
