Lamar Odom’s graphic admission about meeting Khloé Kardashian for the first time
At the turn of the late 2000s into the early 2010s, the Los Angeles Lakers stood at the very center of the basketball universe. With Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson once again leading the charge, the franchise chased glory as the standard-bearers of the NBA and pushed for yet another run at championship immortality.
However, while all the attention on the court was on the Black Mamba and his unforgettable performances, it is hard to say any Laker, or even any NBA player, matched the off-court aura that Lamar Odom experienced during that period.
In the newest “Netflix” documentary, “Untold: The Death and Life of Lamar Odom,” the 6-foot-10 forward recalled the night he met Khloé Kardashian, a moment that would forever change both of their lives.
“You know, the first night, I’ll be honest, I was trying to f-k on the first night,” Odom confessed. “I was like, no, that ain’t that type of party. As much as I could say, I know her, you know, I knew her, but I don’t really know the person in 30 days. Yeah, it’s crazy. You gotta have a gut, feel like a big di-k, some big b-lls.”
Khloé and Lamar got married after only 30 days
It was a “Welcome to L.A.” party organized by his new Lakers teammate Ron Artest, now known as Metta Sandiford-Artest, to bring the organization together ahead of a season focused on the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
At the time, the youngest of the three Kardashian sisters was making a name for herself in the world of reality TV through “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”, which would later become a global phenomenon.
In those early days, Khloé was reportedly paid $5,000 to help host the event, an opportunity that seemed simple at first but ultimately became a life-changing night.
Just 30 days later, Khloé found herself married to Lamar, while he went from a player looking for a casual encounter that night to someone who quickly fell deeply in love with her and a relationship that would define a major part of his life.
“I do like to consider myself pretty level-headed,” Khloé recalled. “I really do. But the cynicism of people judging, and is this a real relationship or is it not, I totally understood. I mean, we were getting married in 30 days. So that is insane.”

Khloé was in her early twenties at the time, and when a Lakers star starts to see you in a different light, it becomes hard to resist everything that comes with that world. The glamour, the attention, the lifestyle — it all pulls you in.
But what began as excitement didn’t stay that way. As the early years faded, life for the couple soon grew more complicated, and the shine of that spotlight started to come with a heavier cost.
The two-time NBA champion with the Purple and Gold squad soon fell into serious issues with drug addiction, which only worsened over time, while Khloé, still a young woman, quickly realized that life under constant media attention is a double-edged sword.
Soon, their names began to surface in headlines for all the wrong reasons. The 2011 Sixth Man of the Year found himself in the middle of a devastating, near-fatal medical crisis — suffering multiple strokes and heart attacks and slipping into a coma.
In an instant, the world stopped. And through it all, Khloé remained by his side, as the world watched and held its breath over whether he would survive.
Odom likely could not have imagined that the woman he was initially attracted to that night would one day stand by him while he learned to walk again and rebuild basic functions in life.
Unfortunately, their love story ended in a sad, very Hollywood fashion — but the fortunate part of the tragedy is that Odom actually survived.
The man who once dominated NBA courts might not be alive today without Khloé.
