Lindsey Vonn shares gnarly x-ray photo after latest surgery
Three-time Winter Olympics medalist Lindsey Vonn has undergone extensive surgery following her devastating crash at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games.
Vonn crashed just seconds into her downhill race at the Games, clipping the fourth gate and suffering a complex tibia fracture.
On Friday, Vonn shared an update after her sixth surgery, which she says lasted six hours.

“Just a quick update… my last surgery went well,” Vonn wrote on X. “It took a little over six hours. I have been recovering from the surgery, but pain has been hard to manage. Making slow progress, but I hope I can be out of the hospital soon. Thank you for all the support.”
After taking some time to recover, Vonn shared a graphic X-ray photo of her leg, which shows an insane amount of screws placed in her leg. “I’m bionic for real now,” Vonn captioned the photo.
Ouch. Vonn said that her injury was “a lot more severe than a broken leg” and that her “leg is in pieces.” After seeing the X-ray, it’s clear that the broken leg was much more serious than it initially seemed.

Luckily for Vonn, she was able to return home to the United States earlier this week and will continue to get the best care as she returns to full health.
Vonn has said that she hopes to return to the slopes one day, but she still has a long road to recovery ahead.
