Could a $23 (€20) screen from Temu actually bring it back to life?
The plan was simply to order, install, and hope for the best.
Because when a repair kit costs less than lunch, curiosity wins every time.

Fixing a broken iPhone with Temu parts
MimFix, a YouTuber known for repair experiments, decided to test the limits of Temu’s bargain-bin tech.
He ordered an Anfyco-branded display for his iPhone XR off of Temu, complete with a screwdriver set, adhesive, a screen protector, and even a cleaning cloth.
The packaging looked like it had survived a minor explosion, but the contents seemed fine.
Everything felt basic but workable.
“Nothing fancy,” as the creator put it.
But once he cracked open the phone, things got a little messier.
The XR had clearly been repaired before.
And the last guy had left a blue film inside, blocking heat transfer and making a sticky job even stickier.
After stripping down the internals, MimFix transferred the ear speaker flex cable (the one that keeps Face ID alive) to the new display, cleaned the frame with isopropyl alcohol, and closed it up again.
Now for the moment of truth.
The screen powered on.
Touch worked.
Even Apple’s True Tone lit up automatically on iOS 18.
But the colors were gray and washed out, a clear downgrade from the original.
For $23, it wasn’t a miracle fix.
While it did the job, he said he wouldn’t do it again because the quality was so bad.
Mimfix went as far as to call it ‘money out the window.’
His verdict: skip the cheap thrills and stick to original or high-quality refurbished parts instead.
Others have also rolled the dice with Temu electronics
This isn’t the first time someone’s rolled the dice on Temu electronics.
Earlier this year, another YouTuber bought two refurbished iPhone 14 Pros off the platform to see what was hiding under the hood.
And surprisingly in that case, both turned out to be legit.
But Temu’s track record is nothing if not unpredictable.
In another case, one buyer thought he’d scored the deal of a lifetime – a $0.01 Nintendo Switch.
Except the console never arrived, his account glitched, and he ended up fighting the app for refunds on purchases he didn’t even make.
Temu makes it way too easy to believe in cheap miracles.
Whether it’s a screen, a Switch, or a refurbished phone, every unboxing feels like a lottery ticket.
But as MimFix learned, curiosity might be cheap… but disappointment ships free.
