Mexican National Guard Officer Nahomi Martínez Reportedly Killed in Operation Targeting “El Mencho”

The security operation carried out on Feb. 22, 2026, which authorities claim led to the arrest of the head of the cartel, Nemesio Oseguera, also known as “El Mencho,” saw tributes pouring in for the security personnel killed in the operation, including National Guard officer Nahomi Elizabeth Martínez.

Officer Martínez, who was originally from Zacatecas, was part of the federal agents deployed to Jalisco to take part in the operation where authorities claim the security forces were ambushed by a criminal cell that was identified as being associated with the CJNG cartel. According to reports, Martínez was killed in the line of duty.

Speaking on Monday was Mexico’s defense secretary, Ricardo Trevilla, who spoke about the dedication of the personnel killed in the operation against the criminal cell. He said that the actions of the personnel killed in the confrontation with the criminal cell showed the strength of the state.

Tributes poured in for Officer Martínez following the news of her death in her home state of Zacatecas, where people spoke of her as being young and dedicated to service. The Academic Preparatory Unit of the Autonomous University of Zacatecas, where Martínez was a student, released a statement mourning the death of the former student of the unit.

Tributes also came in from sportspeople in Zacatecas, with the Mineras de Zacatecas women’s basketball club and the U. Modelo women’s basketball club sending their condolences to professional basketball player Nelsy Sánchez, Martínez’s sister.

Zacatecas local lawmaker Loly Trejo also sent her condolences to Martínez’s family for her death while defending the nation with honor.

In her message to Martínez’s grandmother, lawmaker Loly Trejo wrote that Martínez was defending the nation with honor and that she should be honored for her dedication to her duties.
