Mike Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Exhibition Fight Date, Location Reportedly Revealed
Those who are interested in watching a 59-year-old retired boxer fight a 48-year old retired boxer in an exhibition bout that doesn’t even count for their respective records now at least have an idea of when they can do just that.
Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine reported Monday that Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are “tentatively” scheduled to face each other in an exhibition on April 25 in the Congo.
There is no doubt that Tyson and Mayweather are two of the most notable and accomplished boxers in the sport’s history. And a fight between them in their respective primes would have been one of the biggest events to ever take place in boxing.
Their styles would have made such a hypothetical even more intriguing, as Tyson is known as one of the greatest heavyweights who could knock anyone out with a single punch while Mayweather is a defensive technician who was nearly impossible to square up at his peak.
It would have been appointment viewing for even the most casual of fans.
But that is not what this fight is.
Tyson, 59, last fought professionally in 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride. However, he was back in the ring in November 2024 against YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul, who defeated Iron Mike by unanimous decision.
That apparently wasn’t enough to convince Tyson to stop fighting in exhibition bouts, and now he will square off against the 48-year-old Mayweather. Mayweather went 50-0 during his professional career and is also coming off an exhibition bout, which came against John Gotti III in August 2024.
He hasn’t fought professionally since he defeated Conor McGregor in 2017, but that is still much more recently than the older Tyson.
Not that Tyson is lacking confidence.
“I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this,” he said in September, per TMZ Sports. “It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!”
It appears as if it’s happening in April.
