‘Mormon Wives’ Star Mikayla Matthews Separates From Husband
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Mikayla Matthews has separated from her husband, Jace Terry. Throughout season three of the reality show, the couple opened up about their marital troubles, which largely focused on their intimacy issues; Mikayla was unpacking her childhood sexual-abuse trauma, while Jace wanted to have more intimacy. Season four, out now on Hulu, has the same problems for the pair but amplified. “It’s so incredible that everyone’s getting these opportunities and going out and living their dreams, but my health has held me back from saying ‘yes’ to a lot of opportunities. It’s definitely discouraging and frustrating, and it kind of holds me back in other places in my life, like my marriage with Jace,” she explained in season four, per People. “Intimacy is really important for me. It’s like a deal-breaker,” Jace added.
Of all the cast members, Mikayla told only Mayci Neeley about the decision to split. “I’m walking into Mayci’s Sinner Sunday party with Jace, and I feel like I’m in a pressure cooker with this separation issue because I’m also feeling a bit lost of what to do right now,” she explained in episode nine. Later, Mikayla moves out of the couple’s shared home, with hopes of reconciling after she heals from her past trauma and chronic illness. The two have been married since 2018 and share four kids; she confirms, as of season four’s airing, that she’s still separated from Jace. “Unfortunately, I think it’s just something that’s going to take a lot more time,” she concluded. “I feel like that’s all I can say on it now.”
