Move Over Anbernic, the GAMEMT E5 ModX Might Be The Weirdest Handheld of the Year
GAMEMT is on a roll, and it’s hoping to keep the good times going with its next handheld. The GAMEMT E5 ModX hit our radar earlier this week with a random teaser trailer video. Since then, renders and prototype pictures have been shared, showing off one of the most unconventional modular handhelds we’ve seen.

That’s really the key to the E5 ModX, as it’s a modular handheld, but the Royibeila Twitter account shared a more apt description:
It is a multifunctional combination that can be used as a controller, a horizontal handheld device, and a vertical handheld device
As we can see from the renders, the screen can be removed completely, giving you just a controller that can presumably be paired to other devices via Bluetooth.
Thanks to the one and only Jdewitz over on the RH Discord, we’ve also learned a bit about what the GAMEMT E5 ModX specs look like:
| GAMEMT E5 ModX | |
|---|---|
| Hardware | |
| SoC | MediaTek P60 |
| RAM | 3GB |
| Storage | 32GB (or 64GB if storage prices drop) |
| Display | |
| Resolution | 1024 x 768 |
| Extra Features | |
| Design | Removable Controller |
According to the Discord thread, the P60 will provide up to PSP, Dreamcast, and N64 emulation. Jdewitz goes on to say that the “performance of the p60 is more in line with the Rp2/unisoc T310. It’s not quite at the t618.” Beyond that, not much else is known just yet, but it does seem that the screen will house the “brains” of the handheld, with everything else found in the controls.
It’s pretty cool to see renders of such a handheld, but there are even a few pictures of an “engineering unit” that have also been shared. These show the screen attached, the MagSafe controller adapter, and then an iPhone attached to the MagSafe adapter.

All things considered, I’m a big fan of uniquely designed handhelds. And while I was excited for Anbernic’s RG Rotate, I’m now even more excited to get my hands on the GAMEMT E5 ModX.
According to one of the more recent posts from Royibeila, the retailer “will be launching this product soon.” Of course, that could be tomorrow, or another few weeks from now. Nevertheless, I’m excited to see something completely out of the norm hit the handheld space.
