Judd Apatow continues his streak of showcasing the feature talents of comedians with a new untitled edgy romantic comedy he’s working on with Nikki Glaser at Universal Pictures.
The sell-out stand-up and WGA award winner who wowed as the host of the Golden Globes last January will star in, produce and co-write with Apatow and Sean O’Connor. She previously starred in Apatow’s Trainwreck which was a star project for Amy Schumer back in 2015. That grossed $110M stateside, $140.8M global.
Three-time Primetime Emmy winner Apatow is also producing. The project remains in early development, hence no director attached at this time.
O’Connor was a writer for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, which Glaser was the first woman to host solo.
Apatow and Josh Church will produce through their longstanding Apatow Productions overall deal with the Studio.
SEVP of Production Development Erik Baiers will oversee the project on behalf of the Studio.
This October, in front of a sold-out crowd at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, Glaser taped her newest hour-long comedy special for Hulu which is premiering in 2026.
In film, Glaser is co-writing, producing and starring in an original comedy inspired by the classic game MASH for Paramount Pictures, as we first told you. This Sliding Doors-style comedy follows a woman whose childhood MASH game magically becomes reality, and she discovers that the perfect life isn’t the one she imagined.
Glaser was nominated for a Grammy in Best Comedy Album for “Someday You’ll Die”, an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Pre-Recorded Special for the same show, as well as a Golden Globe. She won a WGA Award in Variety/Specials category for “Someday You’ll Die.”
Apatow’s relationship with the Studio dates back to his 2005 directorial debut, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, which blasted Daily Show‘s Steve Carell to movie star status. This was followed up by Apatow at Uni with Knocked Up which was a centerpiece for Seth Rogen. He also helmed for the studio Funny People, This is 40, Trainwreck, and the Pete Davidson semi-biopic The King of Staten Island for the Studio.
Glaser is represented by UTA, Brillstein and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis. Apatow is represented by WME, Mosaic and Ziffren Brittenham LLP. O’Connor is represented by CAA and Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan.
