Nintendo reportedly planning Switch 2 revision with replaceable battery for Europe

According to a report from Japanese outlet Nikkei, Nintendo will release an updated Switch 2 model that features a replaceable battery for the European market.

The move would come in accordance with European Union legislation so that consumers can easily replace the battery themselves. While this is targeted at the European market, similar policies could take place in Japan and the United States “if consumer awareness of the right to repair increases,” Nikkei says.

With the updated Nintendo Switch 2 model, both the console and the Joy-Con controllers will make it to the lithium-ion batteries can be safely removed. However, we’re hearing that in Japan (and presumably the U.S.), products will continue to be sold with the current specifications.

The EU Battery Regulation has been around in 2023. It demands that starting in February 27, products with portable batteries must allow consumers to easily remove or replace them.
