‘Oh My Goodness!’: Wild Freestyle Skiing Finish Stuns Fans At Winter Olympics
Talk about a topsy-turvy finish!
On Sunday, Team USA freestyle skier Nick Page lost control and went out of the course, a move that disqualified him during his quarterfinals race against Japan’s Ikuma Horishima in the men’s dual moguls competition at the Winter Olympics.
As Page continued to make his way downhill, Horishima began to stumble ahead of a jump and tumbled in the snow on the landing.
But he quickly recovered before he settled on skiing backwards the rest of the way as he crossed the finish line moments later. The two skiers later embraced as the crowd applauded Horishima’s impressive finish.
The wild moment from the competition stunned commentators overheard on NBC’s coverage of the event, including one who declared, “Oh, my goodness! I can’t believe my eyes!”
Social media users also reacted to an NBC clip of the moguls madness, with one X user calling dual moguls the “best sport ever.”
Horishima, who wound up settling for silver as Canadian moguls great Mikael Kingsbury took the gold in the competition, later noted that the Livigno course was icy and threw off his rhythm on Sunday, per Reuters.
