The stage is officially set for a heated start to Monday Night RAW.
According to PWInsider Elite, CM Punk and Jey Uso are scheduled to open tonight’s show live from Anaheim, California, just days before they clash for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
This face-to-face was originally teased last week after WWE confirmed that Punk and Uso would collide for the title. The belt was vacated after Seth Rollins suffered a shoulder injury during his championship match against Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel. Punk was initially set to face Rollins, but plans changed fast once the injury forced a reshuffle.
Punk earned his shot after defeating Jey Uso and LA Knight in a triple threat match. When Rollins was officially stripped of the title by RAW General Manager Adam Pearce, a battle royal was set to determine Punk’s opponent. Jey Uso won that match by eliminating both Knight and his own brother, Jimmy Uso, in a shocking finish that stunned the crowd.
Punk and Uso kicking off RAW is a move that puts their rising tension front and center. WWE clearly wants fans locked in early as these two prepare for a career-defining showdown. Whether tonight’s confrontation explodes into physicality or just sets the emotional tone, the RAW opener is must-see.
Also on tonight’s episode: Roxanne Perez of Judgment Day faces WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss defend the Women’s Tag Team Titles against Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, and Penta goes one-on-one with Rusev to determine who will challenge Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship.
