While it doesn’t seem particularly widespread at this point, a number of Pixel 10 series owners are noticing an issue with apps crashing, but there’s thankfully a temporary fix available, even if that solution is far from ideal.
App crashing issues are never fun, and that’s exactly what Pixel 10 owners have been running into over the past day or two. Users on Reddit report that apps are crashing at random, and that there’s no rhyme or reason to which apps are crashing.
The cause, it seems, is Google Play Services.
Artem Russakovskii, owner of APKMirror, was able to track the crash to Google Play Services and, further emphasizing that it is the point of failure, affected Pixel 10 owners on Reddit noticed that uninstalling updates to Google Play Services while being on the Pixel 10’s October update stops the issue. That is, until the latest Play Services update installs itself again.
Importantly, uninstalling updates and/or clearing data for Play Services means that you’ll also be logged out of your Google account, so it’s not exactly the most convenient fix, especially if you use Google’s password manager for passkeys or lack a second device to use for two-factor authentication.
Google doesn’t appear to have publicly acknowledged the issue just yet, but the company is apparently working on a fix. Russakovskii mentions that, speaking to Google employees, the issue has been marked as high priority and “multiple teams” are working on it.
