Sony will begin manufacturing PS6 in early 2027, ahead of a launch later in the year.

That’s according to hardware leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead, who claims to have seen documents confirming exactly when the console will hit the production line.

While the YouTuber didn’t publicly publish those papers for obvious reasons, he has accurately leaked information about past PlayStation hardware plans, including most recently the PS5 Pro.

Fellow hardware leaker KeplerL2 recently reported that Sony’s “plan” is to release the PS6 in 2027, so it’d need to go into manufacturing several months before launch in order to ensure ample supply.

Here’s what MLID said in a podcast with Sacred Symbols host Dustin Furman:

“I literally have documents showing they’re manufacturing these things in the middle or even early 2027. That’s exactly when they will manufacture the PS6. [They’ve been planning this] as early as two years ago.”

While this all remains rumour for now and is of course subject to change, it does seem increasingly certain now that Sony is aiming for a 2027 launch for its next-gen console.

That’s consistent with the PS4 generation, of course, which launched in 2013 and was replaced by the PS5 in 2020.

While there’s increasing debate about whether a PS6 is even needed, we imagine Sony will want to avoid the supply issues which plagued the PS5 at launch.

Much of this was caused by global conditions at the time, as the system launched during the height of the pandemic. But the Switch 2 has just broken hardware launch records partly through having a plentiful supply of stock, and we suspect Sony will want to replicate that.

Therefore, the earlier it can get these consoles into manufacturing, the more time it’ll have to build up a healthy inventory of stock. So, we can certainly believe that, as of now, the organisation is aiming to begin production in early 2027.

MLID also touched a little upon the price of the device in his video, and while a lot of the conversation is mostly based on his own personal educated opinion, he hypothesised that considering the hardware choices the company is making – including a smaller size and decreased cooling requirements – it will be able to keep the cost of the console down.

He pointed out that global economics, like inflation, could impact its goals, but he believes the PS6 will be cheaper at launch than the PS5 Pro, despite being significantly more powerful.
