Putin’s April 1 Deadline for Conquest of Donbas. The Joke Is On Him.
April 1st, 2026 to do what Russia has not been able to do in four years? By a wave of what abracadabra magical wand? But reportedly that is what the Tsar has ordered.
Not if one of Ukraine’s fightingnest young corps commanders, Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky, commander of the Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has anything to say about it. Biletsky just dismissed Putin’s new orders to his now much hollowed out army as “ridiculous”. Indeed.
It is worth noting that Andriy Biletsky is no new comer to this fight with Russia nor did he become a general through the usual cursus honorum of the regular army … the step-wise rise up the ranks from the academy on up. His is among the many fascinating stories that will be told of this war in future books … the rise of young civilians to the fore-front of Ukrainian war time army command. The once barely coherent army which righted itself and wrestled to the ground the once vaunted Mighty Russian Army … the self-proclaimed “super power” and “the world’s number two army”.
The 46 year old former social activist and parliamentarian founded the controversial “Azov Battalion” and led it into battle against the Russians and their Donbas separatists in 2014. Biletsky’s wing of “Azov” later became the 3rd Assault Brigade and last year the 3rd Army Corps.
Now “Azov” in its various iterations in the Ukrainian army strikes fear into the hearts of the Russians. Colonel Denys(“Redis”) Prokopenko and his side kick, Sviatoslav(“Kalyna”) Palamar, captain and deputy commander, lead the 1st Azov Corps. “Redis” and “Kalyna”(for Ukraine’s beloved Guelder Rose berry) led the stalwart balls-to-the-wall defense of Mariupol until ordered by President Zelenskyy to surrender and go into captivity. Upon their release they asked for and got Zelenskyy’s permission to return immediately to their unit.
Putin will forever rue the day he let those guys out of captivity. Why? Because whenever and wherever Russia seems to be making some head way in this war, General Syrskyi calls in Redis, Kalyna and “Azov”. Dobropiliya? Call in Azov. Huiliapole? Call in Azov. Further up north along the Kazenyi Torets River which runs from Pokrovsk past the “Fortress Belt” to join the major riverine body of the Siverskyi Donets, Biletsky and the 3rd have held the gateways and approaches to the “Fortress Belt” seemingly for ever … anchored around the Lymansky front.
And so when Biletsky calls Putin’s April 1st deadline for the conquest of Donbas “ridiculous”, he on the other hand, knows what he is talking about. Because he’s one of the key people standing in the way and saying No Way:

The Ukrainian brigadier general drew attention to the fact that right now the Russian army is demonstrating the worst rate of advance in the last 3 years on most sections of the front.
If we get through the frosts and if we can completely stop the Russians in the spring, their advance on the front, if they understand that even 2026 [for the capture of Donbas] is absurd, I am sure, then they will have really serious incentives to sit down at the negotiating table.
ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE will stand strong and come April 1st 2026, the joke will be on little Tsar “Vova”(diminutive of Vladimir in Russian).
