The Seattle Seahawks did their part to help the city out on Monday night after a heartbreaker for fans watching along next door. It just wasn’t pretty.

The Seahawks, despite committing four turnovers, held on to grab a 27-19 win over C.J. Stroud and the Texans at Lumen Field in the second game of a “Monday Night Football” doubleheader. That pushed them to 5-2 on the season and kept them tied atop the already crowded NFC West standings.

The win also came just hours after the Seattle Mariners fell 4-3 to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 of the ACLS. Though the game was in Toronto, fans had packed T-Mobile Park to watch along right next door to Lumen Field to try and see their franchise make its first ever World Series trip. That, though, will have to wait.

Seattle jumped up to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on Monday, thanks to a 1-yard run from Zach Charbonnet on their second drive of the night and then a perfect 11-yard slant to Jaxson Smith-Njigba — which prompted an incredible celebration on the goalpost that is sure to lead to a fine in the coming days.

They should have taken a three-score lead in the first half, too, but the Seahawks got a little lax and committed a bad turnover while trying to run a trick play before halftime. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp went to throw to Jaxson Smith-Njigba after taking a toss in the backfield, but completely overthrew him for the easy pick. That led to Houston’s first points of the night, and their first of two field goals before the break.

Will Anderson scored the first touchdown of the night for Houston in the third quarter, too. He swallowed up Sam Darnold in the backfield, forced an easy fumble and then landed on the ball to suddenly make it a five-point game.

But the Seahawks immediately went down and kicked a field goal just minutes later to make it an eight-point game again, and then Charbonnet scored his second touchdown of the night on a quick drive after a fourth-down stop to give the Seahawks complete control of the game once again.

Though Seattle committed two more turnovers in the second half, the Texans just couldn’t take advantage of them at all. They even made it down to the goal line at one point, and then proceeded to get stuffed at the line of scrimmage twice and then fail to convert on fourth down in a truly bad offensive sequence. While the Texans eventually scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter, it came too late. The Seahawks held on to grab the eight-point win.

Stroud went 23-of-49 for 229 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the loss for the Texans. They had just 56 yards on the ground as a group, led by Stroud, and Dalton Schultz led them with 85 yards on eight catches. The Texans failed to have a drive longer than five plays in the third quarter, converted just twice on third down in 15 tries, and just couldn’t get much of anything going offensively despite a pretty good defensive showing.

Darnold went 17-of-31 for 213 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Seahawks. Kenneth Walker III had 66 yards on 17 carries, and Smith-Njigba had 123 yards and a score on eight catches. While they still got the win, a four turnover night isn’t likely to lead to the victory very often. Thankfully for them, the Seahawks are entering their bye week — which should give them some extra time to clean things up.

The Detroit Lions beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-9 in the first game of the “Monday Night Football” doubleheader. Jahmyr Gibbs had a pair of touchdown runs as part of his 136-yard outing for Detroit, which also holds a 5-2 record. The Buccaneers lost Mike Evans, likely for most of the rest of the season, with a broken collarbone in that loss.

Seattle looked incredibly sloppy, and committed a ridiculous four turnovers, but the Seahawks are walking out of Lumen Field with the win.

They now sit at 5-2 on the season.

Hey, they finally did it! The Texans got back into the red zone, and then C.J. Stroud found Marks for a touchdown after a scramble in the backfield.

Seattle leads 27-19 now with 2:04 left in the game.

This is just brutal. The Texans got all the way to the 1-yard line, but they somehow just couldn’t get into the end zone. They got stuffed at the goal line twice, were backed up on a false start and then CJ Stroud overthrew his receiver in the end zone on fourth down.

They had a first-and-goal at the 3, and they came up empty…

The Seahawks keep giving the ball away. Sam Darnold was just intercepted by Derek Stingley Jr., and it sparked a bit of a scuffle on the sidelines.

That was Seattle’s fourth turnover of the night. Somehow, the Seahawks still lead by 15.

They did not take advantage. A blindside block doomed that drive from the start, and then C.J. Stroud just threw back-to-back incompletions as the Seahawks forced another turnover on downs. Not great for Houston.

The Texans have to take advantage of this. They just forced their third turnover of the night after Arroyo lost the ball on a short catch up the middle.

Nico Collins’ head snapped back on the turf awkwardly, and he’s headed back to the locker room. The Texans said he’s questionable to return while being evaluated for a concussion.

That’s back-to-back three-and-outs for the Texans now. They’ve got nothing going offensively, and C.J. Stroud just took consecutive deep shots there that didn’t stand much of a chance. There’s still 12+ minutes left here, but this one feels just about over…

JSN drew a pass interference penalty near the goal line, and then Zach Charbonnet strolled into the end zone without any issue a few plays later. It’s his second score of the night.

Seattle leads 27-12 now near the end of the third.

Marks couldn’t convert on a short run on third down, and then the Seahawks just stuffed them at the line on a fourth down try easily. What a huge turnover for Seattle.

That didn’t take long. After a great 26-yard toss to JSN early, the Seahawks just drilled an easy field goal to push their lead back to eight late in the third. While a touchdown would’ve been better, that’s a start after the fumble on their previous drive.

Now the Texans offense has to respond here…

Welp, the Texans are suddenly back in this thing. Will Anderson just sacked Darnold in the end zone and easily knocked the ball out of his hands for Houston’s first touchdown of the night!

They went for the two-point conversion, but couldn’t get it to go. Seattle’s lead is suddenly down to just five.

  • Yahoo Sports

Sam Darnold found his favorite target in Jaxon Smith-Njigba on a fourth-and-1 conversion. The connection resulted on an 18-yard gain. But Seattle couldn’t get into the end zone and settled for a 26-yard Jason Myers FG.

Not an ideal second-half start for Houston. Meanwhile, it’s perfect for Seattle:

The journey is just as important as the result.

Houston QB C.J. Stroud completed a 29-yard pass to rookie Jaylin Noel and the Texans got 3 points on a 46-yard FG from Ka’imi Fairbairn on the final play of the half. Six-point swing in Houston’s favor in a game that feels like Seattle should be ahead by more.

The Texans gave the Mutombo finger wave to the Seahawks on Jason Myers’ 53-yard FG attempt. Score remains 14-3.

About 1 minute left in the half, and the Seahawks are operating on the Texans’ side of the field, looking for points before halftime.

They had to settle for a field goal, but that was easily their best drive of the game so far. CJ Stroud had a couple of big passes to Nico Collins and Dalton Schultz to get them down there, and then Ka’imi Fairbairn drilled the 36-yarder. It’s a start.

The Seahawks lead 14-3 late in the second quarter.

The Seahawks tried to run a trick play, but Cooper Kupp completely missed the throw intended for Jaxson Smith-Njigba and was picked off by Calen Bullock.

Instead of going up three scores at halftime, the Seahawks have just given the Texans some new life. If they’re going to take advantage, they’ll need a touchdown here, and quick.
