Savannah Guthrie Breaks Down In 1st Interview Since Mom’s Disappearance

Today co-host Savannah Guthrie sat down with Hoda Kotb for her first interview since her mother Nancy’s disappearance, describing the ordeal as “unbearable.”

The interview, which will air on Thursday and Friday, is Guthrie’s first since her mother was last seen on January 31. Investigators have not identified any suspects in the abduction, and the Guthrie family has pleaded for help, offering a reward of up to $1 million for her recovery.

“Someone needs to do the right thing,” Guthrie told Kotb in an excerpt that ran on Today. “We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable.”

She added, “And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night, in the middle of the night, everything night and in the darkness. I imagine her terror, and it is unthinkable that those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face, but she needs to come home now.”

Guthrie is expected to return to Today, but no date has been set.

Kotb, who left the show last year, has been filling in for Guthrie.

“There is a desperation and also a steeliness about Savannah,” Kotb said on the show Wednesday. “I mean, she’s hoping that somebody, whoever this person is, will see something and say something.”

She said that Guthrie, in the interview, “talks about the investigation, talks about her faith, and she talks about how she’s getting through.” She said that she “talks about how God is holding her hand … and she will also describe what’s been happening here.” Guthrie also will share “direct thoughts about what she sees going forward.”
