Seahawks vs. Rams live updates: NFC Championship score, highlights and analysis
Each of the regular-season games between the Los Angeles Rams and the Seattle Seahawks were decided by two or fewer points. The NFC West rivals are providing the football world with another nail-biter through the first 30 minutes of the NFC Championship Game with the Seahawks leading 17-13 at the half.
Seattle started fast, forcing a Los Angeles three-and-out before racing ahead 7-0 after the game’s first two drives. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold connected with wide receiver Rashid Shaheed on a vertical route for a 51-yard gain, and four plays later, running back Kenneth Walker III juked his way into the end zone from 2 yards out. Los Angeles’ defense buckled down for the Seahawks next three drives, surrendering just a 27-yard field goal and two punts the rest of the half.
The Rams’ offense took awhile to warm up kicking field goals from 44 and 50 yards out on its next two drives before capping a 12-play, 87-yard scoring drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Los Angeles quarterback Matthew Stafford to running back Kyren Williams. Rams head coach Sean McVay schemed up a wide-open passing touchdown on that play. Wide receivers Puka Nacua and Konata Mumpfield both ran over routes to the right side of the field to catch the Seahawks defense’s attention, which allowed Williams to leak out of the backfield all by himself. He waltzed into the end zone untouched for the 9-yard receiving score. That gave Los Angeles the lead for the first time, 13-10, with 1:55 left in the first half.
Darnold countered with a deep shot down the middle of the field to 2025 receiving yards leader Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 42-yard gain down to the Rams’ 22 with 44 seconds left in the half. Smith-Njigba then broke wide open on a deep out route out of the backfield for a 14-yard receiving touchdown to put Seattle back on top 17-13 with 20 seconds left in the first half. That late score is crucial because the host Seahawks have a chance to double up after receiving the opening kickoff of the second half. Darnold threw for 209 yards and a touchdown on 12 of 18 passing with Smith-Njigba accounting for 115 of those yards, including his 14-yard touchdown, on seven catches. Stafford threw for 125 yards and a touchdown on 8 of 15 passing, and Nacua accounted for 75 of those yards on four catches.
