Would you like to never again hear about Chappell Roan feuding with a literal child? Good luck, babe! The saga continues today with the security guard at the center of the drama breaking his silence.
A refresher: Last weekend, Brazilian soccer star Jorginho accused Chappell Roan of making his 11-year-old stepdaughter cry after a security guard believed to be working for the singer scolded the girl and her mom. The incident occurred at a hotel in São Paulo where both Roan and the athlete’s wife, Catherine Harding, and stepdaughter, Ada, were staying for Lollapalooza Brasil. According to the lengthy message Jorginho posted to his Instagram Story on Saturday, the 11-year-old “got excited” after spotting Roan at breakfast at the hotel and “walked past the singer’s table to confirm it was her.” Shortly after, a “large security guard” approached Ada and Harding in “an extremely aggressive manner,” apparently telling Harding “she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people.” Amid widespread backlash, Roan apologized to the family, but she said the man was not her “personal security” and she “did not ask this security guard” to go up to their table. “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy,” she said.
In a statement on his Instagram on March 25, security guard Pascal Duvier said he took “full responsibility” for the kerfuffle, which he said took place while he was working security for someone who wasn’t Roan. “I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan,” he wrote. “The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals.” Duvier said he doesn’t usually “address online rumors, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation.”
Duvier added that he made a “judgment call based on information we obtained from the hotel, events I had witnessed in the days prior and the heightened overall security risk of our location. My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions, and the outcome of the encounter is regretful,” he said.
Duvier is a high-profile security guard who has worked for numerous celebrities, including Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, and Fergie. He most famously served as bodyguard to Kim Kardashian and her family, including during her 2016 trip to Paris where she was tied up and robbed. Duvier was out with Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner at the time of the armed robbery. Kim parted ways with Duvier afterward, per People, and her insurance company later sued Duvier alleging negligence; the case was settled out of court in 2020, per the Daily Mail.
Anyway, sounds like Chappell does not, in fact, hate children. Case closed …at least until the next thing people get mad at her about online.
