Shay Mitchell Joins ‘Baywatch’ Reboot
Shay Mitchell will soon be slow-motion running on the sand, as she is the latest actor to join the cast of Fox’s “Baywatch” reboot.
The “Pretty Little Liars” star will play Trina, a former lawyer who walked away from a white-shoe law firm to become a full-time lifeguard. Per the character description, “Trina is the sharpest mind on Baywatch. Passionate and dedicated, she tends to follow her heart… even if she often uses her considerable intelligence to second guess herself.”
The “Baywatch” reboot will air as part of Fox’s 2026-2027 broadcast lineup. Joining Mitchell on the beach are Stephen Amell, who plays the lead role of Hobie Buchannon, a grown-up version of the wild child from the original series, and Jessica Belkin as his daugher Charlie Vale. Plus, Hassie Harrison is Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone is Brad, Brooks Nader is Selene and Noah Beck is Luke. Original series star David Chokachi reprises his role as Cody Madison.
Matt Nix serves as showrunner on the series, a follow-up to the 1990s sensation starring David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson. Nix executive produces alongside pilot director McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. Fox and Fremantle co-produce.
The new iteration will shoot on the beaches of Los Angeles thanks to a $21.1 million California state tax incentive. The show follows Hobie (Amell), who is now a Baywatch captain following in the footsteps of his father, Mitch (played in the original by Hasselhoff). Hobie’s world is turned upside down when the daughter he never knew, Charlie (Belkin) shows up at his door wanting to continue the family legacy.
Fox hosted a giant casting call (and promotional event) for “Baywatch” in February, inviting 2,000 actors to audition for parts ranging from extras to series regulars. Read Variety‘s dispatch here.
Mitchell is best known for playing Emily in the teen drama “Pretty Little Liars,” as well as her roles in Netflix’s “You” and Hulu’s “Dollface.” She’s also the founder and chief creative officer of travel and lifestyle brand Béis. She is represented by Linden Entertainment, WME, Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks.
