Sydney Sweeney Movie Sets 2027 Release
Exactly two years after Lionsgate‘s opened the Paul Feig near-$400M grossing R-rated hit The Housemaid, the pic’s sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, will open on Dec. 17, 2027.
Like the first film which was mega female Christmas counterprogramming to tentpole Avatar: Fire & Ash, Housemaid’s Secret be positioned against New Line’s Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum and Disney/Marvel Studio’s Avengers: Secret Wars. Housemaid posted a 3-day domestic opening of $19M legging out to a massive 6.6x multiple of $126.5M stateside. This was in the face of Avatar: Fire & Ash‘s $89.1M opening.
As we reported previously, Kirsten Dunst is joining in on the hijinks with Sydney Sweeney, who returns as Millie. The enigmatic young woman with the mysterious past takes a job keeping house for a woman she’s never allowed to see – only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own. Italian actor Michele Morrone returns as Enzo. Feig of course is back to helm with franchise producer Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman. Feig will produce through his Pretty Dangerous Pictures, along with his partner, Laura Fischer; and Sweeney, through her Fifty-Fifty Films banner. Screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book, will also return to adapt the sequel from Freida McFadden’s bestseller. Carly Elter, who oversaw the first movie for Hidden Pictures, is returning as executive producer. Alex Young of Hidden Pictures will also executive produce. Fifty-Fifty’s Kaylee McGregor will co-produce.
Lionsgate identified and optioned McFadden’s literary trilogy (plus a fourth entry, a short story) early on, before the books became bestsellers. Production on part two starts later this year. There’s a plan to have more Housemaid movies in the future.
Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio are overseeing the film for Lionsgate.
