The Denver Broncos are trading for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle
After a quiet first week of free agency with no outside splashes, the Denver Broncos started off Week 2 of free agency with a huge addition. According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins have agreed on a trade that will send star Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Mile High City.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Broncos will be sending the #30 overall selection, #94 selection, and #130 selection in exchange for Waddle and the 111th selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Broncos’ 2026 NFL Draft pick arsenal is now at #62 in round two, #108 and #111 in round four, #170 in the fifth, as well as #246, #256, and #257 in the seventh round.
In his five years with the Dolphins, Waddle has reeled in 373 catches for 5,039 yards and 26 touchdowns. He has a 69-percent career catch percentage, much higher than anyone currently on Denver’s roster. The veteran wideout is tremendous creating yards after the catch and nearly half of all his receptions (252) have gone for first downs.
The past two years have not been as productive for the former Crimson Tide standout who was picked #6 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Issues at quarterback have hampered his production. Hopefully, he will revert to prior form teaming up with Bo Nix and having Head Coach Sean Payton and Offensive Coordinator Davis Webb drawing up creative plays to ignite their aerial attack.
The Dolphins ate a gargantuan amount of dead money to conduct this trade. The Broncos are only on the hook for roughly $5 million against the salary cap for Waddle in ‘26. However, that number moves up to $27 million in 2027 and $30 million in 2028. Without question, Denver will have to make some contract adjustments moving forward to be compliant with the salary cap in ‘27.
After a weeklong wait, Broncos Country has something to be excited about. Though the draft festivities in late April will be a bit less exciting than usual without a first and third round pick. How do you feel about the move, Broncos Country? Let us know in the comments section.
