Tony Khan: ‘I Think Powerhouse Hobbs Had A Great Run Here In AEW’

As seen during the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble Premium Live Event, Royce Keys (formerly known as Powerhouse Hobbs in AEW) made his debut with the company in the men’s Rumble match. While speaking to Josh Martinez, AEW President Tony Khan commented on Hobbs leaving AEW for WWE, praising the star’s tenure with his promotion.

“Well, I think Powerhouse Hobbs had a great run here in AEW,” Khan said. “He started wrestling here in Jacksonville, where I am now, and had some great matches, and became a champion in AEW. We were just talking about the TNT Championship. He’s a former TNT Champion, former World Trios Champion. I’ll always wish him all the best.”

A New Identity

Keys’ debut in Saudi Arabia marked the end of weeks of speculation regarding his future. After his AEW contract expired in mid-January 2026, reports surfaced that the powerhouse had turned down a significant offer to remain with the company in favor of jumping to WWE.

Upon his arrival at the Royal Rumble, the titantron briefly flashed “Powerhouse Hobbs” before shattering to reveal his new moniker, “Royce Keys.” The name holds personal significance, as Royce is the name of his youngest son and Keys is his late mother’s maiden name. The rebranding signifies a fresh start for the 34-year-old as he looks to climb the ranks of a new roster.

Immediate Impact

Entering the match at number 14, Keys wasted no time making his presence felt. He immediately targeted former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest, eliminating him. Although his night was eventually ended by Bronson Reed, the strong showing in Riyadh has set the stage for a promising run on the road to WrestleMania 42.

During his five-year stint with AEW, Keys was a featured member of factions such as Team Taz, QTV, and the Don Callis Family.
