Tornadoes, 2-Inch Hail Possible During Tuesday Storms
CHICAGO — Parts of Chicago could see tornadoes and 2-inch, damaging hail with dangerously high winds as storms batter the city Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Monday saw another “false spring” with unseasonably warm weather and sunny skies. That’s already over, with Tuesday expected to be significantly cooler with a high temperature of 51 degrees that falls to 41 degrees by 11 a.m., as well as rainy, stormy skies, according to the National Weather Service.
There’s a chance for drizzle before 4 p.m., and there could be severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, according to a hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service. The storms could come with large hail and damaging winds up to 70 mph. Tornadoes will be possible south of I-80.
The severe weather, including heavy rain, could continue overnight. The National Weather Service warned there could be instances of flash flooding.
Wednesday has a limited risk for thunderstorms east of I-57 and south of I-80. The day is expected to see rain, and snow is possible. It will only get as warm as 41 degrees, and wind gusts up to 35 mph are possible, according to the National Weather Service. More rain and snow showers will be possible in the evening.
Thursday is expected to see sunny skies return, and it could hit 46 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts up to 20 mph are possible during the day, with gusts of 45 mph possible overnight into Friday.
Friday will be partly sunny but breezy, with a high near 49 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
