Plenty of clubs are scrambling late in the window to buy and sell players and cheeky bids are flying in from all angles.
With the Premier League table so tight, clubs are gambling that a few key additions could be the different between European qualification or not, staying up or not and maybe even being in the title race or not.
Below we will keep you up to date with all of the developing deals on transfer deadline day.
Transfer Deadline Day live updates, news, analysis!
Kalvin Phillips leaves Manchester City on loan
It’s a third loan from Manchester City from Kalvin Phillips, who will take his midfield patrolling talents to the Championship with Sheffield United. Phillips has only played seven minutes for City this season, a sub’s stint in the League Cup at Huddersfield Town in September.
Strand Larsen to Palace on a record deal
This particular “Will they or won’t they?” is apparently “They will” as Palace have purchased Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolverhampton Wanderers to break their incoming club record transfer for the second time this window after landing Jorgen Strand Larsen for approximately $59 million with incentives that could bring the total to $67 million (Sky Sports). Palace, meanwhile, will use some of that money on Dwight McNeil and will end up keeping hold of Jean-Philippe Mateta after his deal with AC Milan fell through earlier today.
Chelsea youngster George nears Everton loan
Sky Sports says that Tyrique George’s loan move to Everton will have an option to buy as the young forward seeks playing time. Still 19 for a couple of days, George is an England youth international with three goals and an assist in 492 minutes spanning 11 appearances across all competitions this season. In his Premier League career, George has a goal and an assist in 12 games. He can play anywhere across the front line but left wing is his forte.
Forest bid for Arne Engels; Disasi to West Ham
With just a few hours to go, there still hasn’t been a confirmed incoming in the Premier League today. Nottingham Forest have reportedly bid for a third time for Celtic midfielder Arne Engels with Sky Sports saying the latest bid is $34.1 million. And West Ham are moving along with a loan move for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, with The Guardian reporting a medical schedule but there are still some details to iron out.
McNeil to Crystal Palace?
Well, even if the Mateta deal is off it seems like Palace are still cracking on with deals and The Times report that they are interested in signing Dwight McNeil. The attacking midfielder has found minutes hard to come by at Everton this season and per the report the Toffees want close to $30 million for McNeil. That seems like a lot but if Palace can do a deal just under that then McNeil has proven his quality on the ball going forward so many times in the past.
Mateta to AC Milan in “major jeopardy”
It appears that Jean-Philippe Mateta’s move from Crystal Palace to AC Milan could be a little more complicated than it first appeared. Per several reports, including this one from David Ornstein, Mateta had to undergo extra medical tests. And the BBC have now reported that the move is in “major jeopardy” due to issues with the medicals as Mateta is carrying a knee issue. Surely after everything that has happened with Mateta in recent days he isn’t going to end up at Palace after all? Their $65 million move for Wolves striker as his replacement Jorgen Strand Larsen could well be impacted, while Wolves have lined up Adam Armstrong to replace him and Southampton have lined up Cyle Larin to replace him, but all of those moves could now be in danger of not happening. Per the report from David Ornstein, Palace’s move for Strand Larsen is still on ‘as things stand’ but as Mateta’s situation proves, things can change very quickly on deadline day.
Newcastle reject Arsenal approach for Sandro Tonali
Arsenal have reportedly been told that Sandro Tonali is not for sale after reaching out to Newcastle about his availability. Sky in Germany say that Arsenal made a late approach for the Italian international. With Mikel Merino out with a foot injury for several months, it seems like the Gunners are looking to add one more central midfield option late in the window. Do they really need it? Probably not. But perhaps this lays the foundations for Tonali to make a move to Arsenal in the summer?
Everton knocked back on Harry Wilson
A really intriguing bit of news here, as Everton have reportedly had a big rejected for Fulham star Harry Wilson. The BBC say that any deal for Wilson was knocked back right away, even though the Welsh playmaker is out of contract this summer. Wilson has been in superb form for Fulham in recent months and the Liverpool academy product will be a top target for a host of other clubs this summer if he does run his contract down. Also worth noting: he’s born and bred in Wrexham, so if they get promoted to the Premier League perhaps he will be the marquee signing for his boyhood club!?
Jacquet to Liverpool this summer for $82 million
Talented French center back Jeremy Jacquet, 20, is reportedly close to signing for Liverpool from Rennes for a whopping $82 million, with Chelsea in the running until the very end. But he won’t be able to play for Arne Slot’s side in January and will instead join Liverpool in the summer. With Ibrahima Konate out of contract this summer, is this Liverpool lining up his replacement? It sure feels like it. This also feels like a great move long-term and Liverpool were probably limited as to what they could do in January due to financial rules, given how much they spent last summer. But Liverpool do need help defensively now, so maybe they will go for a short-term option until the end of the season?
