Trump Skewered By Conan O’Brien
Conan O’Brien got in a few digs at Donald Trump in the initial hour of the Oscars, not just in the opening monologue but in between introducing presenters.
“We’re coming to you live from the ‘Has A Small Penis Theater,”’ O’Brien said after one commercial break. “Let’s see him put his name in front of that.”
That was a reference to the renaming of the Kennedy Center to the Trump Kennedy Center. The move by the Trump controlled board to rebrand the center for POTUS is being challenged in court, as the cultural arts institution was designated by Congress to be a memorial to John F. Kennedy.
While O’Brien’s monologue included a few political jokes, the comedian is not known for his partisan humor like some of his contemporaries, like Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers.
Last year, just weeks after hosting the Oscars, O’Brien was awarded the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize. He was awarded the honor before Trump took control of the center and fired board members appointed by Joe Biden and Barack Obama.
In his monologue, O’Brien quipped about the MAGA movement’s choice to hold an alternate Super Bowl halftime show, after the NFL selected Bad Bunny for the big event.
O’Brien said, “I should warn you, tonight could get political, okay, and if that makes you uncomfortable, there’s an alternate Oscars being hosted by Kid Rock at the Dave & Busters down the street.”
He also made a joke about the Epstein files. “For the first time since 2012, there are no British actors nominated for best actor and best actress. A British spokesperson said, yeah, well at least we arrest our pedophiles.”
