Was Donald Trump really rushed to Walter Reed Hospital? Here’s what to know
Has Donald Trump really been rushed to Walter Reed National Medical Military Center?
A casual check in on Elon Musk’s X social media platform on Saturday, and one might think that is the case, but there has thus far been no evidence to support the rumors.
In fact, as the claims gained steam on social media, White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung shared a post on X that offered a different explanation for Trump’s whereabouts.
“There has never been a President who has worked harder for the American people than President Trump,” Cheung wrote at about 3 p.m. “On this Easter weekend, he has been working nonstop in the White House and Oval Office.
“God Bless him.”
The White House’s X account reshared the post.
Trump has also been active on Truth Social.
“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” he wrote Saturday morning. “Time is running out — 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Later in the day he wrote, “If you import The Third World, you become The Third World!’ – AND THAT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AS LONG AS I AM PRESIDENT. PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.”
It certainly doesn’t seem as though Trump has been hospitalized.
So, how did the rumors start?
Well, it appears to be a combination of things, including claims that the roads around the hospital had been shut down.
Also, the White House put a lid on media access just before noon. Folks appear to have taken the two, mixed them together, and ran with the rumors that had “Walter Reed” trending on X.
And those rumors appear to have been debunked by White House correspondent Hugo Lowell.
“The White House has called a travel/photo lid as of 11 am ET, meaning we do not expect to see the president for the rest of the day,” Lowell posted on X Saturday afternoon. “Trump is in Washington this weekend but we are yet to have a formal news briefing on the situation with the missing airman in Iran.”
“Trump has been at the White House today, as evidenced by the presence of a Marine outside the West Wing,” Lowell added. “There has not been any travel to his golf course at Trump National or Walter Reed.”
