What to watch on Day 2 at the Winter Olympics: Lindsey Vonn and figure skating’s first medals

Top events to watch

Alpine skiing: Women’s downhill

Time: 5:30 a.m. ET, 11:30 a.m. in Italy

What to watch for: Can Lindsey Vonn cap her remarkable career with another Olympic medal? This will be her first of three tries, with the team combined and super-G events still ahead.

Figure skating: Team event, final day

Time: 1:30 p.m. ET, 7:30 p.m. in Italy
TV: Peacock

What to watch for: The first figure skating medals will be handed out as the three-day team event comes to an end with the free skates in the pairs, women’s and men’s events.

Other events

Curling: Mixed doubles round robin

Times: 4:05 a.m., 8:35 a.m. and 1:05 p.m. ET; 10:05 a.m., 2:35 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. in Italy

What to watch for: Canada, the U.S., Great Britain and the host nation all play in the final two sessions of the day.

Speed skating: Men’s 5,000-meter final

Times: 10 a.m. ET, 4 p.m. in Italy

What to watch for: Metoděj Jilek of the Czech Republic, also known as Czechia, France’s Timothy Loubineaud and American Casey Dawson have been among the best at this distance during the World Cup season. The 2022 Olympic champion, Sweden’s Nils van der Poel, has since retired.

Ice hockey: Women’s preliminary round

Times: 10:40 a.m. and 3:10 p.m. ET; 4:40 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. in Italy

What to watch for: On a day off for the U.S. and Canada, France faces Sweden (10:40 a.m. ET) and the Czech Republic battles Finland (3:10 p.m.).

Cross-country skiing: Men’s skiathlon

Times: 6:30 a.m. ET; 12:30 p.m. in Italy

What to watch for: Norwegian star Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo begins his run at Olympic history in an event that combines 10 kilometers each of the classic and skate techniques. Last year, he won gold in every event at the cross-country world championships. Ben Ogden and Gus Schumacher are the top American hopes.

Snowboarding: Women’s and men’s parallel giant slalom finals

Times: 7 a.m. ET; 1 p.m. in Italy
TV: Peacock

What to watch for: On the women’s side, Czech star Ester Ledecká will try for her third straight parallel giant slalom gold. Also a 2022 Olympic gold medalist in Alpine skiing, she was forced to choose one sport or the other due to the long distance between venues in these Games. A qualification round begins at 3 a.m. ET, 9 a.m. in Italy.

Biathlon: Mixed relay, 4x6km

Times: 8:05 a.m. ET, 2:05 p.m. in Italy

What to watch for: Two men and two women take turns doing three 2-kilometer laps, with shooting rounds in between. Norway, with nine-time Olympic medalist Johannes Thingnes Bø, is the defending champion.

Luge: Men’s singles, runs 3 & 4

Times: 11 a.m. ET, 5 p.m. in Italy
TV: Peacock

What to watch for: Germany’s Max Langenhan and Austria’s Jonas Müller will compete in the final runs along with home nation representative Dominik Fischnaller and Kristers Aparjods of Latvia.

Snowboarding: Women’s big air qualification

Times: 1:30 p.m. ET, 7:30 p.m. in Italy
TV: Peacock

What to watch for: Austria’s Anna Gasser is the two-time defending Olympic gold medalist, but she hurt her shoulder surfing during the summer and has been rehabbing with the hope of making it three straight. New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, the 2022 big air silver medalist and also a slopestyle star, is another favorite.
