In December, Isak Andic, the founder of the behemoth fast-fashion company Mango, died while hiking with his son in Spain. Per the BBC, the 71-year-old billionaire businessman slipped and fell nearly 500 feet off a cliff. Police initially ruled his death an accident, according to Spanish newspaper El Periódico. But now, local media outlets say that officials are investigating the death as a possible homicide, and Isak’s son, Jonathan Andic, is a suspect.

Jonathan, who’s 44, serves as vice-chairman of the board for Mango Fashion Group and has worked at the company since 2005. Initially, he was treated only as a witness in the case, having reportedly told police he’d been walking ahead of his father when he heard the sound of falling rocks, turned around, and saw him fall to his death. But Vanguardia reports that he’s now being investigated due to alleged inconsistencies in his statements to police. Apparently, other people authorities spoke with described the father and son’s relationship as “bad,” per The Guardian’s translation, and police are planning to take a second look at the evidence, including Jonathan’s phone records.

In a statement to Reuters, the Andic family said they believed Jonathan would be found innocent. They said their family “will continue to cooperate, as it has done until now, with the competent authorities.” “Furthermore, it trusts that this process will be concluded as soon as possible and that it will prove Jonathan Andic’s innocence,” they added.
