Winter Storm Elsa hits this weekend; more than 1 foot of snow likely for entire region
(WLUK) — Get ready, Northeast Wisconsin. Our first named storm since late December is heading this way.
Two systems will move through in the next four days — one Thursday night into Friday, and another starting Saturday night and lasting into Monday morning.
The first storm is expected to drop 1-2 inches of snow across a large swath of the area. There is a Winter Storm Watch in effect for our northern counties, which will see 4-7 inches of snow. We’ll also have strong winds.
Winter Storm Elsa then moves in Saturday night. Heavy snow is likely all day Sunday and possibly into Monday morning.
This will be a major storm for Northeast Wisconsin — one that could threaten snowfall records. More than a foot of snow is likely, and it may be much more than a foot.
Winds could gust over 50 miles per hour, so there is a chance Elsa becomes a blizzard. Travel Sunday and early Monday will be difficult or impossible. We haven’t seen much snow recently, so make sure you are prepared.
