Women’s Hockey Olympic Gold Medalists Stick It to Donald Trump

Olympic gold medal winners from the U.S. men’s and women’s hockey teams crashed Connor Storrie‘s SNL monologue on Saturday, with the two on the women’s team taking a shot at Donald Trump for his dismissive comment about them.

Storrie, who stars in the hockey-themed Canadian television series Heated Rivalry, was talking about learning about how to at least look like he could play the sport.

“I am just so thankful for everything this job gives me the chance to do. Like, in two weeks I had the chance to learn how to speak Russian and look like I knew how to play hockey,” Storrie, 26, said. “And then I’m watching the Olympics, and I see these amazing players, and I’m like, ‘I don’t think I pulled it off.’”

Storrie was then joined on stage by Quinn and Jack Hughes. After some allusions by Storrie about how the show, in which two male players on rival teams are in a relationship, is “kinda” about hockey, he said he hoped at least some pro players have seen it.

Megan Keller and Hilary Knight, each of whom also won gold in the 2018 games, then entered, and said that they had.

Knight then commented on the group’s gathering: “It was going to be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too.”

That was a reference to how Trump, in a phone call inviting the men’s team to the White House after their win, said that “we’re going to have to bring the women’s team.”

Knight later told SportsCenter that Trump’s “distasteful joke” was “overshadowing a lot of the success, the success of just women at the Olympics carrying for Team USA and having amazing gold medal feats.”

Players on the men’s team had varying reactions.

The U.S. women’s team has since declined Trump’s White House invitation.
