European leaders said they “strongly support” an immediate halt to Russia’s war in Ukraine along current battle lines to start peace talks as they try to renew momentum toward ending the war.
The statement, issued Tuesday, comes days after US President Donald Trump said he would meet Russia’s Vladimir Putin in Hungary in the coming weeks to discuss the conflict, currently well into its fourth year. Trump has called on both sides to declare a ceasefire and begin peace talks. On Monday, he cast doubt on Ukraine’s ability to defeat Russia.
