Eva Mendes was ready for anything when Ryan Gosling hosted the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live.
The 45-year-old Barbie star took over the popular late-night show for its Saturday, March 6 episode, alongside musical guests Gorillaz. The gig came only two days after Gosling surprised his longtime love with a very public shoutout while on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to celebrate her 52nd birthday.
Just in case he had something similar up his sleeve for SNL, Mendes took some steps to make sure she was ready in full Hollywood glam.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, March 9, Mendes shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse at herself getting ready to join Gosling at the taping in New York City.
In the clip, she’s getting her hair styled into a chic, teased look as a hairstylist layers hairspray to keep everything in place. Mendes also shared a photo of herself having eyeliner applied as she dutifully looked up at a makeup artist.
“My prep for SNL this weekend – in case I was suddenly called out in front of cameras again 😬,” she cheekily captioned the post.
Mendes and Gosling’s late-night appearance on the Thursday, March 5 episode of Fallon marked their first official joint appearance since 2013, when they attended the N.Y.C. premiere of The Place Beyond the Pines.
Before he brought her out to be serenaded by New Jersey’s North Bergen High School, Gosling jokingly told host Jimmy Fallon that he might end up getting thrown into the Hudson River for surprising his partner, whom he’s been romantically involved with since they met in 2011.
Despite his joke, Mendes appeared touched by the sweet gesture, kissing Gosling on the cheek while standing beside him as confetti rained down to celebrate Mendes.

Gosling’s pair of late-night appearances is in support of his new movie Project Hail Mary, which lands in theaters on March 20.
He and Mendes have not confirmed their relationship status explicitly. However, the actress has previously referred to her partner as her “husband.“
They share daughters, Esmeralda and Amanda, who were born in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
Despite their longstanding relationship, Mendes and Gosling largely keep their family and relationship out of the public eye and are rarely photographed together.
