Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts tossed four touchdown passes and the Eagles cruised to a 38-20 win over the New York Giants on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, avenging their road loss two weeks ago.
Hurts finished 15-for-20 passing for 179 yards and found three different teammates in the end zone. Saquon Barkley rushed for 150 yards, including a 65-yard score on the second play of the game, one of two rushing touchdowns.
For the Giants, the biggest concern is rookie running back Cam Skattebo, who left the game during the second quarter after dislocating his ankle. It was an especially difficult injury for New York, which is already without top receiver Malik Nabers, and struggling through a season in which they are now 2-6. Quarterback Jaxson Dart finished with 193 yards, but it wasn’t enough against the high-powered defending Super Bowl champions, who improved to 6-2.
Barkley gives Eagles what they’ve been waiting for
Barkley received a question this week about whether he’s the same player from his historic 2024 campaign. Other players fielded the question, too.
That was answered emphatically on his first carry of the game — and throughout a standout performance against his former team. Barkley rushed for 150 yards on 14 carries, and had the game the Eagles had been waiting for from him. There had been ongoing insistence that the running game was close to breaking out, but there’s no credit for being close to a big run. Barkley did not have a rush of 20-plus yards in the first seven games, but he had two on Sunday. It’s those explosive runs that are the difference for Barkley. He had 17 rushes of 20-plus last season.
Barkley’s numbers could have been even better had he not exited with a groin injury in the second half. He remained on the sideline after being evaluated in the medical tent. This is a good time for the Eagles’ bye week. — Zach Berman, Eagles writer
Skattebo’s injury halts offensive progress
The biggest story coming out of Sunday was the gruesome dislocated ankle Skattebo suffered. It completely took the life out of Lincoln Financial Field as Giants teammates immediately called for help once Skattebo hit the ground on an incomplete pass. Skattebo not only led the Giants in rush yards (410) but also was fourth in receiving yards (207). He had seven touchdowns on the year and has become a focal point of the offense thanks to his connection and friendship with Dart. The Giants struggled to get much going offensively consistently after Skattebo’s exit. — Charlotte Carroll, Giants writer
Goedert flexes red-zone muscles
After an offseason filled with speculation of whether Dallas Goedert would remain with the Eagles in 2025, the tight end is fielding career-best numbers. With three catches for 28 yards and two touchdowns, Goedert’s second multi-touchdown game gives him a career-high seven touchdown catches this season.
The 30-year-old Goedert, who signed a restructured deal before the season, has been a favored feature in first-time offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo’s system, particularly in the red zone. Earlier this season, Patullo twice dialed up touchdown pitches to Goedert out of the team’s Brotherly Shove formation. Against the Giants on Sunday, the Eagles went to Goedert twice in the red zone for his two touchdowns. — Brooks Kubena, Eagles writer

Giants still can’t stop the run
The Eagles ran all over the Giants, who allowed the most rushing yards (277) this season. Barkley, who hadn’t run for more than 60 yards in five straight games, set the tone in the first quarter. It’s a continuing trend that’s plagued the Giants since last season — heading into Sunday, the Giants have allowed the second-most rush yards in the league (1192). Even after Barkley left the game with a groin injury, the Giants still had trouble containing the Eagles’ run game. From bad tackle angles to gaping holes up the middle, the Giants helped the Eagles out on the ground. — Carroll
Eagles defense clamps Dart
The Eagles logged a season-high five sacks against the Giants. The total shattered their previous high of two, which they logged in five games. Dart may have surprised them with his proficiency as a runner in their first matchup, but the Eagles’ defensive coordinator did not allow Dart to beat them twice. Five different Eagles defenders recorded sacks, and Jalyx Hunt and Jalen Carter recorded their firsts of the season. Moro Ojomo upped his team-high total to four sacks on the season. — Kubena
Philadelphia in good shape heading into bye week
The Eagles are now 6-2 entering the bye week, giving them one of the NFC’s best records after a first half of the season that includes victories over Kansas City, Tampa Bay, and the Los Angeles Rams. There’s been drama in Philadelphia — there usually is — but it’s hard to argue with their record at this point in the season. The win over the Giants helps their point differential (now +23, up from +5), and Hurts is heating up.
The Eagles can take the next week to get healthier, with key players such as A.J. Brown and Cam Jurgens nursing injuries, plus Barkley’s injury on Sunday. Brandon Graham joins the lineup after the bye week, too. The schedule gets difficult with Green Bay and Detroit awaiting them in November, but the Eagles should be considered legitimate Super Bowl contenders. — Berman
