An iconic video game that originated in the 1990s is getting a Netflix television show.
The first Crash Bandicoot game was released in 1996. Created by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin, it was developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation. That game launched a franchise that has seen the titular anthropomorphic bandicoot go on a number of different adventures, the latest being 2023’s Crash Team Rumble.
According to What’s on Netflix, the Netflix streaming service is now adapting Crash Bandicoot into an animated series.
What do we know about Netflix’s Crash Bandicoot series?
Not too much is known about the Crash Bandicoot show at this time, other than that it comes from the WildBrain Studios animation studio. That company has worked on a number of Netflix titles in the past, one of the most notable being Sonic Prime, which is based on the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. That show ran for three seasons, with the final episodes being released in January 2024.
Plot details for the new show are being kept under wraps at this time. No vocal casting has yet been announced. This means that it’s unclear which supporting characters from the video games will be showing up in the show; although, Doctor Neo Cortex at least seems like a safe bet, given that he’s the main antagonist in the Crash Bandicoot series.
It is worth noting that Crash Bandicoot did show up in another animated Netflix show, Skylanders Academy. Produced by TeamTO and Activision Blizzard Studios, that series also ran for three seasons, with the finale arriving in 2018. Eric Rogers voiced Crash in the first season of Skylanders Academy, while Rhys Darby then took over in Season 3.
A release date for the Crash Bandicoot television show has not yet been announced.
