Justin Bieber Demands Apple Fix Messages App UX, Threatens “Choke Hold”
Apple’s Messages app UX has apparently irritated Justin Bieber, the one-time teen heartthrob and an accomplished singer, to such an extent that he is now threatening to place everyone at Apple in a “rear naked choke hold.”
Justin Bieber apparently has had enough of the multiple functions embedded into the “send” button on the Apple Messages app
Apparently, Justin Bieber is irate at Apple’s User Experience (UX) design choices for the Messages app. Here is what we think is likely happening:
- Once you start typing in the Apple Messages app, the microphone icon in the bottom right corner turns into a “send” button.
- When you’ve finished typing and hit “send,” the icon again transforms into a microphone for voice notes and dictation.
- Apparently, Bieber is mistakenly hitting the microphone button after sending a text, which results in a “beep” that interrupts the music that is being played.
According to Justin Bieber, Apple should not locate the “send” and “microphone” functions at the same location.
While we agree that this design element can create momentary confusion, millions of people around the world still manage to use Apple’s Messages app everyday without accidentally activating the microphone.
The issue is likely being caused by an inordinate lack of dexterity on the part of the renowned signer. Even so, integration of multiple functions in the same spot is generally frowned upon from a UX design language perspective.
It is a strange day indeed when Apple is receiving UX advice from Justin Bieber! This situation, while unlikely to cause a general ruckus, speaks volumes as to some degradation in Apple’s design choices of late, especially in conjunction with the new Liquid Glass effect-based UI, which is hardly attracting plaudits.
