Measles exposure reported at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Health officials have identified Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport as a place where people may have recently been exposed to measles.
The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) confirmed that a measles patient traveled through Terminal 4 on Jan. 29.
There have been three confirmed cases of measles within Maricopa County. MCDPH previously identified one more exposure location: the Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa.
MCDPH is working with federal, state, and airport officials to notify travelers who may have been exposed.
Gov. Katie Hobbs said she was “extremely concerned” about the rise in cases across the state, urging people to protect themselves by vaccinating themselves if they haven’t.
Monday’s announcement comes weeks after a case was reported at the Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa towards the end of January.

People who were at the above locations at the specific dates and times should watch for symptoms, which typically appear seven to 12 days after exposure. However, in some cases symptoms may not appear until 21 days.
Symptoms include:
- High fever above 101 degrees
- Red, watery eyes
- Cough
- Runny nose
- A red, raised and blotchy rash. The rash typically starts after other symptoms and usually appears on the face or hairline, and moves down the body
There were four other cases reported in early January in Gilbert, that are no longer a public safety risk:

Officials say measles is preventable with two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, typically given during childhood. Adults need at least one dose of MMR vaccine given after the age of one.
