Ski mountaineering
12.30pm: mixed relay (final)
Making its debut at the Winter Olympics, ski mountaineering – also known as ‘skimo’ – sees athletes navigate an uphill and downhill course. Competitors attach sticky pads called ‘skins’ to the undersides of their skis to ascend the uphill part of the course, where some steep sections will need to be hiked on foot. They then reattach their skis to navigate a technical descent. In mixed relay, teams consist of one male and one female athlete, each completing the course twice and handing over to one another in between laps.
